Many counselor educators (CEs) and CITs may recognize the importance of providing treatment to a person born with a disability and that person's primary caregiver. However, CEs and CITs may be less aware of issues concerning non-disabled sibling(s) in such families. The literature on this topic spans multiple disciplines and perspectives, from deficit-based to strength-based views. Thus, prudence compels counselor educators to consider the implications for counseling and pedagogy.
